Note: Silvanus Handy was born perhaps about 1778; no death record has been
found.
He married in Sandwich 7 Feb. 1799 Susanna Price (Town Records), born
in 1777 and died in 1838, according to her tombstone in Cataument
Cemetery.
There is not a shred of proof that Silvanus Handy is correctly placed
here. The entire Handy family seems to have had a strong prejudice
against the making of wills. They seldom recorded the births of their
children or had them baptized, and these tendencies were particularly
strong in the Cataumet branch of the family. By the process of
elimiation, we thing it likely that this man was a son of Cornelius
Handy, Jr. Perhaps publication of this article will cause the discover
of a Bible record or other evidence to confirm or refute this tentative
guess.
