Note: My Mom, a simple, mild mannered woman, for whom the term a 'Lioness protecting her cubs' was invented. She never seemed aggressive, until you messed with her kids. She would fight the system, and if necessary, pickup a bat to show her strength. When her 9 years old was having his ear detached by the p.e. coach, his form of getting kids attention. She went to the PTA, then the Edinburg school board, and had the coach fired.
Shortly after we moved to Ballinger, in west Texas, her child then 13, was being picked on by to bullies 2 to 3 year older than him, outside the school. She had just driven up to the school, when my Mom saw them. As she moved the car closer, the bullies moved away. Her child a bit shaken explained what happen. She then took out her trusty bat from under the driver's seat, showing it to them while yelling, ' mess with my kid, and you won't have a place to hide that I won't find you! We found out later that one of the bullies had been tried for murder, but witnesses were too scared to testify.
A little over a year later we moved to Carrizo Springs, Texas. The first year there the High School was surrounded by protesters, that had broken into a side entrance of the school attacked a teacher, and threatened the class. Did that stop Mom, NO! She had her trusty bat, which luckily she didn't need. She got her car through the crowd and pickup not only her child, but his friends as well.
My parents retired in Corpus Christi, Texas. My sister and her family lived there. My brother and his family moved there shortly after my parents. My Mom would wait for my nephew's school bus daily. One day he, an 8 year old, told her that older bullies were picking on him, and other kids on the bus. She jumped on the bus, and would not get off until she spoke to the bullies, while the bus driver protested. She then called the Superintendent, and explained the problem, as only she can do. The next day there were monitors on every school bus. The father of the bully was at the same bus stop the next day waiting for his son, and respectfully greeted her with a simple, "hello".
