Grandmother Angelita inherited her portion of Cavazos land from Asadores Ranch in Runn, Texas which belonged to her father Salvador Gallegos Cavazos. After her marriage to Thomas J. Handy, she sold it, and pooled their money together to buy 3,300 acres at .50 cents an acre from Juan Jose Trevino, owner of the Agostadero del Gato Land Grant. Handy called his new ranch, La Esperanza (Hope).

Bourland and Miller Report, page 28: John Young applies for himself and others for five leagues of pasture land originally granted to Don Juan Jose Trevino by the State of Tamaulipas. Witnesses prove the occupation, cultivation and pasturage of same for many years prior to March 2,1836. Recommended. Confirmed by Legislature, Act of February 10, 1852. Note: Copy Transfer (sale) from heirs of Juan Trevino to John F. Weber, June 8, 1855, in file. General Land Office File San Patricio 1-433.

Note: Sam Handy, 78 years, passed away on September 2, 2008. Sam was born in Donna, Texas on March 24, 1930. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Virginia Handy; sister, Emily Weaver and brother, Jim Handy Jr. Sam was the owner of Sam Handy Painting and Sandblasting Co., for over 30 years. He attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. He also enjoyed dancing and talking with his friends.
Sam leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife, Sandra "Sandy" Handy; son, Samuel Handy, Jr. of Corpus Christi and daughter, Susan Handy Wulff (Randal) of Fort Worth Texas; granddaughter, Savanah Wulff of Fort Worth; three sisters, Virginia H. Adams, Mary Valdez of Donna, Texas and Linda Villarreal of Houston, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews and cousin
Visitation will be Friday, September 5th 2008 from 2:00 - 9:00 P.M at Corpus Christi Funeral Home with a Rosary to be recited that same evening at 7:00 P.M. Services will be at Corpus Christi Funeral Home on Saturday, September 6th 2008 at 3:00 P.M.
