2nd Wisconsin Cavalry Regiment
The Second Wisconsin Cavalry Regiment was organized at Camp Washburn, Milwaukee, WI, and mustered in by companies at various dates, the last being March 12, 1862. The regiment left the state on March 24, 1862, proceeding to St. Louis, MO and stationed at Benton Barracks. From this point battalions from the regiment were sent into the states of Missouri and Arkansas, and were in active service until the month of January, 1863, when the second and third battalion were moved to Memphis, TN, the first remaining in Missouri.
In June following the second and third battalions were transferred to Snyder's Bluff near Vicksburg, MS. The day following the surrender of Vicksburg July 4, 1863 the regiment was assigned to the forces under General Sherman and participated in the Jackson Campaign July 5-25, 1863. On the return from this expedition the regiment remained at and in the vicinity of Vicksburg doing patrol and police duty until November 1864. Here during the month of September the first battalion rejoined the regiment. For several months following the regiment was sent to various points with expeditions, the field of operations extending from Vicksburg to Memphis, to Ripley, MS, and to Gaines Landing, AR, among other points.
In the month of August 1865 the regiment was ordered to Texas, and companies stationed at different points in that state were assigned to patrol and garrison duty. On October 30, 1865, the regiment was mustered out of the service of the United States at Austin, TX. It returned to Madison, WI, where it was disbanded on December 14, 1865.
The history above is adopted from Charles E. Estabrook, ed., Records and Sketches of Military Organizations, (Madison, 1914).

Note: "As far as is know from family records and oral history, Asadores Ranch first belonged to Salvador Cavazos Gallegos and San Juana Anzaldua, his wife. Their birth dates are 1811 and 1813 repectively. Both were probably born in Nuevo Leon. The children were: Salvador, Preciliana, Dolores, Petra, Eulalia, and Angelita.
Asadores Ranch was situated in the La Blanca Land Grant given by the Mexican government in 1834 to Lino Cavazos of Reynosa, a son of Matias and Manuela Hinojosa Cavazos. This land embraced five leagues of black-cattle pasturelands or 22,140 acres."
Salvador Cavazos Gallegos and San Juana Anzaldua were the first to be buried at Asadores Cemetery in 1886 and 1887 in a large brick bovada or mausoleum. Their son, Salvador Jr., is interred in the same tomb. Other family members were also buried there, some as late as the 1940's.

Note: Emigrated to America from France in 1716 aboard sailing vessel
"Neptune," under the Captain Parady's command. The Nepturn was
captured by Walker's fleet of the British Navy off the coast of
Newfoundland. Rene' Cosse and the other captives were taken to Boston
and later to Deerfield, Massachusetts. Rene' Cosse was to be
included, against his will, in a prisoner exchange. Rene' Cosse did
not want to be exchanged and was allowed by Govenor Bradley to remain.
Rene' Cosse settled in Connecticut. Rene' supported himself by
teaching French and later made his way up-river, where he met and
vigorously courted Ruth Porter. Ruth Porter consented to marry Rene'
Cosse' on the condition that he would never return to his native
France. The rest is History, or, the continuing saga of the Cossit
Family Heritage here in America.
